Directions of use
-
The HAT is based on an idea by the Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation (SNLA). Their paramedics and rescuers were lacking a device that would immediately start activate heat treatment, whilst leaving them room for treating the patient. The development is currently coordinated with SNLA and Minitech AS, a Norwegian leader in medical device heating systems.
The HAT medical device provides the following benefits:
Immediate start of hypothermia treatment when emergency services arrive.
Non-invasive, easy to apply, re-useable device (2 years).
Active heating through collar, and insulation of the balaclava allows for uninterrupted treatment of co-morbidities or injuries, whilst still treating hypothermia (unlike a heating blanket or insulation foil/wrap).
Use of headphones during flight is possible without affecting the head application.
Small size unit allows for carry in any medic's bag.
One size fits most.
Use cases for civilian and military medical evac via road or air ambulance, mountain rescue, as well as hypothermia in elderly, and more.
Compact packaging for emergency field application.
The balaclava layout is covering and dispensing heat to both head and neck for treatment of hypothermia. The collar consists of the following:
Waterproof reusable outer balaclava.
Active heating element with interchangeable battery pack, providing up to 4 hours of constant heating ~ 37ºC (including one spare battery).
Disposable inner balaclava (Merino wool) preventing passive heat loss.
Compact packaging for emergency field application.
The HAT medical device is compliant with (EU) 2017/745-MDR and developed in collaboration with the Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation (SNLA), a Norwegian professional rescue foundation with hands on experience.
